Tom Waits

The Tom Waits Digest

Singer/songwriter with Tom Waits has been making music for 25 years. His discography includes 18 studio recordings, starting with his debut in 1973 with Closing Time, as well as numerous contributions to soundtracks and compilations. In the later 70's he began composing movie scores and acted in several movies including Francis Ford Coppola films Rumblefish and The Outsiders. Always just a little outside of popular music, Waits' surreal studies of the desperate, the down and out, and the bizarre have inspired more than one generation of musicians and a loyal following of fans. His songs have been covered by such notables as Bruce Springsteen (“Jersey Girl”) and Rod Stewart (“Downtown Train”). His latest release Mule Variations was released to critical acclaim in 1999.

Jakob mentioned Tom Waits debut album “Closing Time” as an essential one for everyone's collection, in the 1997 FANatic episode. In addition, Jakob's brother Jesse is credited on Tom's 1992 release Bone Machine for Cover Concept and Design (along with Tom Waits) as well as Photography.
