Comments: I’m really big on music that nobody knows about and here are some of my newest ‘finds.’ My first pick is OUTERSTAR, a relatively new band whose power music sounds across between early theatrical Bowie and Pet Shop Boys (CD comes out Nov. 6) (http://www.outerstar.com). My second is DOT ALLISON. She’s Irish and her music is angelic ~ across between Enya and Sarah McLachlan (http://www.getmusic.com/alternative/dotallison/index.html). Last, but not least, listen to CONTROL MACHETE. They are a Latin band that had some great songs in the movie Amores Perros. Very hip, very cool (http://www.controlmachete.com/ - in Spanish).

What's fueling your feathered, irreverent fire?
Was the previous lyrical child the cause of your ire?
Truth hurts, penetrating a mockingbirds' mire.

Three little flowers, beneath a tree,
leaching off a majestic entity
swimming in refuse, wild and free,
trinity's children--one day you'll see
you really won't benefit from malignity.

Comments: I just saw The Wallflowers on September 5th. I was fourth row center and had an unbelievable experience! I could not take my eyes off Jakob... his voice is mesmerizing and his talent is immeasurable. I have been a fan for many years and this live performance was more than I ever dreamed it would be. I thought I would wake up and it would be over, like I was stuck in a faraway dream...and now I feel emotionally inspired. You all must see Jakob Dylan and The Wallflowers live...you will be eternally, musically fulfilled! Thanks for letting me share. Jakob, please come back to VA...I'll be in the front row!

Just heading on over here to tell everyone about Greg's online birthday card! Greg's b-day is on August 31, which is coincidentally on the same day as they are playing a concert in Burgettstown, PA. I'm going to be at that concert, so I thought it would be nice if we could all get some birthday wishes to him in person. I'm going to print out all the responses and try my darndest to get the card to Greg while I'm there.
If you'd like to sign his card, go to:
http://www.angelfire.com/music3/wallflowers
Just type your info in (It's all optional, so if you're leery about putting your age or something else in, don't worry!) and hit the "SUBMIT" button. It's that simple! Then your comments will be emailed to me, where I will load them up into a card for our favorite bassist, Greg.
The deadline to sign the card is August 21, but just in case you forget I'll occasionally be posting reminders here, there, and everywhere.
After the deadline, I'll post all the comments and a copy of Greg's card on the same website, so everyone can view it before I (hopefully) get to give it to him. And of course, I'll let everyone know if he gets it or not, so stay posted!
Thanks!

hearing from you. To answer your questions, Matt
Chamberlain was never a member of the band. The band's
first drummer (Peter Yanowitz) quit before the recording of
Bringing Down the Horse. Matt was hired to do the studio
work while they searched for a drummer who could join the
band. Mario Calire was hired after the record was
completed. Also, Adam Duritz sings backup on "6th Avenue
Heartache". Hope that helps you out!

Comments: Pick of the month: Tom McRae…

For fun, I’m conducting a sort of survey to find out what
people want to hear more of. With all of the new styles of
music, many people seem to think that genuine music has
been replaced with looped samples and a cookie-cutter
method of songwriting. Do you agree? Tell me what, if
anything, is missing in the music you hear now. Tell me
if, in your restless search for something with substance,
you have happened across a little-known gem ~ a diamond in
the rough whose music sings from the heart, not from the
corrupting lust for $$$. Each person can just give
your “Pick of the Month”. Someone still relatively
obscure, but whom you believe is too good to remain a
secret. One example would be Tom McRae. He is a
singer/songwriter from London whose music is sad, sweet and
intense, but almost entirely unheard of in the U.S. He
has been called “the new Nick Drake.” He has also been
compared to Jeff Buckley and Radiohead. He is someone
whose name I would use, even though his CD won’t be
available until sometime in August because you can still
listen to samples of his songs (http://www.tommcrae.co.uk ~
if you’re interested). That should give you a good idea of
what I’m looking for. So now share some of your best-kept
secrets; the floor is open…
