MTV's FANatic
Aired: Summer 1998

Interviewer: "Wow."

Jakob: "We're a little nervous."

Interviewer: "Why's that? You nervous? I am so nervous. You guys mind if I ask you some questions?"

Jakob: "Lets do that!"

Mike: (claps)

Interviewer: "Alright, ok."

Interviewer: "What made you want to become musicians?"

Mario: "For me it was probably nervous energy 'cause I was beating up my brothers or annoying them, so by playing the drums I could have a more productive use of that energy."

Rami: "I think it was just the only thing I could pretty much do. It wasn't really a choice. It kinda fell into place growing up in L.A."

Michael: "I just liked KISS a lot when I was little. They were my favorite band so I started playing music."

Jake: "Well I had a particular background which music was around a little bit, so I always kinda heard it and I used to go see groups like The Clash play and thought there couldn't be anything cooler than doing something like that."

Greg: "Yeah I was just a fan of music."

Jake: "He just hung out with me."

Greg: "Yeah I hung out with him, no one played bass."

Interviewer: "So you all knew each other since you were younger?"

Jake: "I've known Greg since high school, since we were like 13."

Interviewer: "This is a question for all of you. Who was the person that inspired you most in your life?? It could be anybody."

Jake: "You have to say Mom. If any of you guys don't say mom you can just walk out of the room right now"

Every one: "We are going to go with Mom."

Interviewer: "Well you guys have been my greatest inspiration, and how that was - you guys have been there through lots of turning points in my life. I moved from Bakersville to Vasalia and became this hell-child to my parents and what turned that around was a friend of mine let me borrow the Wallflowers CD. The moment I popped it in, I fell in love. My dad actually bought me my first Wallflowers CD so that was really special because he was completely into nothing but Christian music and once he bought me that, it opened us up to each other more and once I became closer with my family, I have a brother who's autistic and he's 7, and when I became closer with my family I was around him more and it made me realize I wanna become a special education teacher. So you guys had a part to do with that too. Just wanted to let you guys know that. And if it wasnt for your guys' CD, I dont know where I'd be right now"

Jake: "Where you'd be, you'd be walking around not talking to anyone with a backpack and headphones on."

Interviewer: "What CD would you guys suggest that every one have in their collection besides your own of course?"

Jake: "Our first CD."

<Rami: "Every one has to have 'Revolver' by The Beatles."

Jake: "I'd say it would be a good idea to have Tom Waits' 'Closing Time'"

Interviewer: "We had a bet going. I bet you would say London Calling by The Clash because I heard you say that before. I just lost $1.00."

Jakob: "Oh you did, I'll front ya"

Interviewer: "If you had to pick one word to describe you what would it be?"

Mario: "Thin."

Rami: "Guess I'd be going with the fat thing then..."

Mario: "I wasn't trying to do that."

Jakob: "Hey Mario, why don't you just take care of this for all of us."

Mario: Funny (points to Rami). Michael would be fast. Jake would be witty. Greg…solid."

Interviewer: (Story of how Jakob once played "Sugarfoot" at a concert for her) "Do you remember that?"

Jake: "Of course I do (laughing)."

Interviewer: (Story how Mario once threw a drumstick to her and someone took itm from her)

Mario: "I'll get you another one."

Interviewer: "Ok (laughs) thanks. How do you feel when someone tells you that you inspired them and changed their life?"

Jake: "It's very exciting. I know it sounds cliche, but it's probably the highest compliment."

Interviewer: "If you guys could play with any other band or performer who would it be and have you done that yet?

Jakob: "Come on animal, what've you got?"

Mario: "Um, I'd really like to play with Shaq. I'm really into basketball."

Jakob: "That would be great 'cause you could jam and then you could throw a little hoop."

Rami: "I'd go with Bruce Springsteen…and we've done that."

<Mario: "That is a good one"

Jake: "I'm gonna play this card, that was a good card, but this is the card I'm gonna play…I'm sitting with them…(the rest of the band goes "oooh") …right, just gotta look around and…Michael, Rami, Mario, (pause) Greg"

Mario: "That's really nice Jake" (Greg pats Jakob's knee)

Jakob: "Yep"

Interviewer: "Well thank you guys for meeting with me. This is the best day of my life. The second was the concert in Bakersfield

Jakob: "There's another one coming up.."

Interviewer: "I know, September 17th…I'll be there"

Jakob: "So will we"

Interviewer: "Thanks"

Jakob: "Thank you."
